Bike Week @ Bannockburn kicks off this Sunday when rally goers will begin to arrive at the Bannockburn Hotel. Organiser Dave Moreton says all is ready for their arrival with plenty of accommodation options.

“Some have elected to stay in Cromwell at Motels while others will stay at the free camping ground across the road from the Hotel. The Domain Camping ground is just a short stroll away and it offers both accommodation for campers and hot showers for everyone else for just two dollars.”

The rally runs until Friday and offers two daily rides, one for road bikes and one for road bikes.

“It is a great opportunity to enjoy the company of fellow motorcyclists and to see some of our great country” said Dave. “Those on adventure bikes will be able to access some spectacular back country that they would not normally be able to get to while and the road rides are also absolute crackers. Afterwards we have live music in the newly redeveloped beer garden at the Hotel and three special dinners in the restaurant with guest speakers.”

Dave says that everyone is welcome to attend the $50 three course dinners but advises that it would be wise to book with the hotel quickly as they are selling out fast.

“We have Ken Dobson, the co-owner of Hyosung Motorcycles NZ on Tuesday night. Ken has raced successfully in New Zealand, Australia, the UK and all over Europe. He has excelled at many tracks including the Isle of Man and the Le Mans 24 hour race for Superbikes, where he was part of the winning team. Ken has committed the company to proving his Korean product on the race track and Hyosung have won the 250 production championship in New Zealand for the past three years.

On Wednesday night we have Jo Morgan. Jo and her husband Gareth have done more miles between them on some of the most dangerous and remote roads in the world than most of us put together.

Finally on Thursday night our publican Tim Hanna will talk about the subjects of his three published books – John Britten, Burt Munro and Kim Newcombe. Tim has spent years researching the lives of these three great Kiwi motorcyclists and his talk promises to reveal many fascinating insights into their different but strikingly connected lives.”
