Josh Coppins can now retire happy, the 35-year-old veteran clinching the Australian MX1 title at the final round of the Monster Energy MX Nationals series at Coolum in Queensland on Sunday.

The former world championship number two battled to second overall at the season finale, with 2-1-2 finishes on his Yamaha YZ450F in a trio of action-filled motos, finishing the season 11 points ahead of Suzuki rider Todd Waters.

Fellow Kiwis Cody Cooper and Kayne Lamont also did well, Cooper finishing third overall in the MX1 class on his Suzuki, Lamont winning the Pirelli MX Development class for Under-19-year-olds.

Queenstown’s Scott Columb and Christchurch’s Justin McDonald also featured in the results, finishing their seasons eighth and ninth respectively in the MX2 class.
