In a shock outcome, Frenchman Thomas Pages beat championship points leader, Kiwi Levi Sherwood, at the penultimate round of this year’s Red Bull X-Fighters freestyle motocross series in Munich last weekend, forcing a winner-takes-all showdown at the final in Sydney in October.

It was a debut victory for the talented Pages in Munich, and – incredibly – it came without a backflip of any sort.

Sherwood had an 80-point lead in the championship heading into the Munich round but was a disappointing sixth after being ousted in the quarter-finals by the red-hot Pages, who became the crowd favorite for his electrifying jumps: the Special Flip off the seat of his bike, the Volt that left him spinning in mid-air above his bike and the Flair – turning a 540 degrees in mid-air.

Pages is now even on points at 235 with Sherwood, the winner of Dubai and Madrid, going to the season finale in Sydney on Oct. 6.
