So the rumours were true; Yamaha and Ducati have confirmed that nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi will leave Ducati at the end of the year to try and revive his MotoGP career at Yamaha.

Rossi first joined Yamaha in 2004 and achieved four MotoGP World Champion titles with the Yamaha YZR-M1 in 2004 and 2005 and again in 2008 and 2009. All-up he won 46 Grand Prix races with Yamaha over a seven year period before leaving at the end of the 2010 MotoGP season for what was supposed to be even greater things at Ducati.

Unfortunately the now 33-year-old has never been able to get to grips with the Italian manufacturer’s carbon-fibre and now aluminium monocoque-framed bikes and V4 engines.
