JORGE LORENZO won his second MotoGP Championship with a fine second place to Casey Stoner at Phillip Island today.  The Yamaha rider was virtually gifted the title by compatriot and rival, Honda’s Dani Pedrosa.

Twenty-three points behind in the championship, Pedrosa had a very slim chance of taking his first MotoGP world crown but really had to rely on misfortune to strike Lorenzo.

Instead, after taking the lead after just one lap of the 27 lap Air Asia Australian MotoGP race, Pedrosa got into Honda Corner too hot, pulled on a bit to much front brake and slid down and out of the race.

That put Stoner into a lead he was not to relinquish and Lorenzo circulated in a safe second to wrap up the title with a round to go.
