Christchurch's Jake Lewis took  third place at Monza yesterday which moved him to within two points of the lead of the Pata European Championship.

The Pata championship is  run as a support race for the World Superbike Championship.  All competitors are given an identical CBR500 Honda to race. All the bikes are also run on the same Pirelli tyres.

Lewis won the first race at Aragon then crashed out of the second at Assen. It appears that although the grid is packed, there are a few riders that only do selected rounds. This has played into Lewis's hands with the winner of the second round not having ridden the first round and the other top finishes not doing so well at these last two rounds.

Lewis's third place at Monza means he closes in on Italian Michael Canducci, the only other competitor to have had two podiums and is now two points behind the lead with 41 points.

Lewis is joined in the championship by fellow Kiwi's  Sam Croft, Connor London and riding under a British flag Blayes Heaven.

The results are incomplete at this stage but should be updated shortly.

The next round is Imola.
