SCHWANTZ BACK IN SADDLE FOR SUZUKA 8 HOUR

Former 500cc GP World Champion Kevin Schwantz is to make his international racing comeback at this year's Suzuka 8-Hour race in Japan.

The 48-year-old, who clinched the 1993 World Championship aboard his #34 Lucky Strike Suzuki RGV500 Suzuki (pictured), will race a GSX-R1000 in a three-rider Suzuki team set-up by Yukio Kagayama that also includes former MotoGP, WSB and BSB rider Noriyuki Haga.

The last time Schwantz contested the 8-Hour was in 1992 with Doug Chandler but the pair were forced out due to mechanical issues.

Kagayama says it was always his dream to share a bike in the 8-Hour with Schwantz, a rider he says is remembered with great affection in Japan.

"I've known Kevin since 1985 or 1986 when he was with Yoshimura and first entered the Suzuka 8-Hour and some Japanese Championship events. Then he won the Japanese GP at Suzuka in 1988,1989,1991,1993 and 1994. So many Japanese fans remember this and still love him!"
