SUZUKI GSX-R1000 TOPS FIRST DAY

SUPERBIKE World Champiponship debutant Alex Lowes topped the second free practice session at Phillip Island today to head the time sheets with his Yoshimura powered Voltcom Crescent Suzuki GSX-R1000.

For quite a while, his team-mate, Irishman Eugene Laverty was second fastest with Italian Davide Giugliano third on the facdtory Ducati Panigale.

A late flurry saw defending champion Tom Sykes jump from eighth to third on the Provec Kawasaki ZX-10R while Marco Melandri suddenly shot into the number two spot on his factory Aprilia.

But right at the death. Giugliano shot out of the pits on the Ducati V-twin and grabbed third place back with Sykes relegated to fourth fastest.

However, less than one second covers the top 11 Superbikes while Nicolo Canepa topped the EVO class with 12th fastest time on his Althea Racing Ducati 1199 Panigale with three other EVO class bikes, Fabian Foret (Kawasaki), David Salom (Kawasaki) and Aussie GlennAllerton (BMW) right behind, ahead of the first MV Agusta Superbike of Claudio Corti.
