English rider John McPhee (SaxoPrint-RTG Honda) topped the Moto3 warm-up on a cooler Sepang track this morning with a best lap of 2m 13.296s – almost four tenths of a second slower than his qualifying time.

Although the air temperature at Sepang at 9.50am local time was already 30 degrees, the track was just 39 degrees – 13 degrees cooler than during qualifying on Saturday afternoon.

Australian Jack Miller, fastest qualifier for the Moto3 race with a best of 2m 12.450s, was content to get in nine untroubled laps to make sure all was in order for the race this afternoon.

After leading the championship for much of the season, the KTM rider crashed at Assen, then again at Aragon, scoring n points.

Meantime, Alex Marquez has had a strong second half of the season and leads the title chase by 20 points with just this afternoon’s race and the Valencia round on November 9 remaining.

Consequently the Aussie is a very long shot at taking his first world championship.

Still, that didn’t stop him turning in a qualifying time 1.889s under Miquel Oliveira’s year old lap record of 2m 14.339s.
