MARQUEZ US RACE RECORD

As well as establishing a new MotoGP lap record  at the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix on Sunday, and a new race record for the 27 lap race, Marc Marquez also goes into the record books as the man who scored Honda its 700th grand prix race win.

Not only that, he is also the only rider to win a World MotoGP Championship race in the USA since he stepped up to the premier class three years ago.

Back then there were three GPs in the USA but with the Laguna Seca event dropped from the schedule after the 2013 season, there are two US GPs - Austin, Texas and Indianpolis, Indiana.

If we delve further back in the Spaniard's illustrious career, he can claim to have won nine consecutive GP races in the United States, starting with his win in the Moto2 class at Indianapolis in 2011.

However, when the world famous venue first hosted GP bikes, Marquez was racing an Austrian KTM in the 125cc class.   The record shows he never managed to win a 125cc GP in the USA...
